History of DotA

Hi readers, it's DJ (Di Jing) again. In this post, I will talk about the history of DotA.

DotA, Defense of the Ancients is a custom scenario for the real-time strategy video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft.
The objective of the game is for each team to destroy the oppenents' Ancients, heavy guarded structures at the opposing corners of the map.

The players use one powerful creatures called heroes and are assisted by allied heroes and computer-controlled fighting creatures called "creeps". An example of hero is the Bane Elemental I introduced in the previous post.

In the game, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission. There will two teams of players against each other: the Sentinel and the Scourage.

The Sentinel team is based on the southwest of the map and the Scourge team is based on the northeast of the map. Each base is defended by towers and waves of units which guard th main paths leading to the other base. When one of the players destroy the opponent players' "Ancient", a building in the center of base, that player win the game.

Warcraft III is the third title in th Warcraft series of real-strategy games developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The first version of DotA was released in 2003 by a mapmaker under the alias Eul who based the map on a previous StarCraft scenario known as "Aeon of Strife".

I hope this post can let you know about the history of DotA and how the game is played.
